The city of Heartania has always been a bustling metropolis of technology, enlightenment and unity. It is home to many heroes and public protectors, stalwart guardians of all that is good. However, with generations of individuals doing good in this fair city, a horde of evil will always sprout from it.
In the parallel universe of Earth-β the year is 2065 and it has been 18 months since the insane nuclear-powered villain; Fat Man sought to wipe Heartania off of the map with meltdown at the Heartania Power Plant.
Heroes intervened, lead by the paragon of virtue; Blake O'Crowley - The Paladin, but empowered by the active meltdown Fat Man was simply too powerful. Even with all of their powers combined the heroes could not stop Fat Man, they could not stop the meltdown but The Paladin had a secret weapon; a last resort. If they couldn't stop the blast, they could move it. And so The Paladin repurposed his Teleport Drive into a Teleport Bomb and blasted the Power Plant right down to its foundations into the furthest reaches of space, aborting the crisis and saving Heartania. But unfortunately the bomb needed constant maintenance and so Blake was forced to stay behind and go down with the rest of the plant, just as Fat Man was seemingly able to escape; his powers weakened by the heroes' Pyrrhic victory.
The city was saved with the doomed plant sent across the stars... but at the cost of The Paladin - Blake O'Crowley.
Heroes and even certain villains alike grieved and licked their wounds but eventually a status quo would reemerge...
It was Esteban Vargas - The Seer - Blake's ex-teammate who came across The Paladin's contingency plans; a powerful A.I. network known as P.A.L.A.D.I.N. which consisted of a backup of Blake's consciousness which would serve as a mentor to the heroes, as well as four prototype Paladin-1 Peacekeeper Bots to be commanded in battle by The Seer. While this could potentially stir up controversy among the citizens of Heartania the heroes mostly excepted P.A.L.A.D.I.N. as an extension of their lost comrade.
And so, in present day the potential threat of Fat Man's return to bring more destruction to Heartania looms in the distance but by-and-large things are starting to improve... even if super-powered villains were still very much a problem.
Our story begins as the Blake O'Crowley of Earth-Alpha; The Knight finds himself lost in another realm, the parallel universe of Earth-Beta with no way to return home...
Application Template:
It's very simple to apply to this RP, as you are given a template to follow:
Name:
Alias:
V&V Counterpart: (If applicable)
Gender:
Age:
Alignment:
Specialisations:
Physical Description:
Personality Description:
Backstory:
Other:
Please keep your application somewhat believable, a 60 year old isn't going to be quite physically adept, after all. For model applications, check out the archive linked above.
Additional Information:
Alignments
Hero: An umbrella term for both the hero or the law enforcer. Overall, their job is to do good.
Neutral: You never quite know what to expect from someone with this alignment. They may end up producing more good than bad, or vice versa. People with the neutral alignment are commonly vigilantes or mercenaries, though the term is also used for citizens of Heartania.
Villain: Villains are out for their own agenda, if it is something that causes pain and suffering. Malicious and relentless, the villains are often looked upon as all that is wrong with Heartania.
Specialisations
These are the skills that your character posses. They can be either superhuman powers/feats or simple trade skills, either way, these abilities will ultimately define your character. You may pick up to two specialisations, you can pick those already introduced, or create your own. However, if you do produce your own specialisation(s), you must describe the nature of the skill, along with it's strong points and weaknesses. If the specialisation is accepted, then you are free to use it throughout the RP.
Example Application
Name: Grace Scott
Alias: Blacklight
V&V Counterpart: Starlass
Gender: Female
Age: 22
Alignment: Neutral
Specialistations:
LIGHT HARNESSING: Blacklight has the ability to generate and manipulate concentrated light, using it as a weapon.
FLIGHT: Blacklight can travel through the air at up to supersonic speed.
Physical Description:
Grace has a healthy body figure, at a height of 5'9. Her posture is confident, accentuated by the look in her forest-green eyes that suggest her potential and sheer willpower. Her face is rounded, usually centred by a slight frown or look of disapproval. She lets her raven-black hair hang loose at all times, usually making it look rather wild. In public she wears long jackets and coats, and usually a thick scarf of some sort.
When she takes on her persona of Blacklight, her aura becomes even more intense. Over her face she wears a black steel mask, obscuring her features entirely. Instead of her average day-to-day clothes, Blacklight dons a navy blue tunic of thick, durable leather with thick gloves and even thicker shoulderguards. On the front of her torso, a black star is emblazoned, a threat to those who dare cross her. A smaller star sits on her belt which seperates her tunic from her trousers, with the outfit completed by long black boots.
Personality Description:
Grace is a smart, proud and confident individual, traits which are hidden behind her gruff, intense exterior. She has lost confidence in her home and its people, her choices making those around her generally fear her on first sight. She has always been one to help without asking for reward, which translates well to her new lifestyle of striking out at crime and escaping back into the shadows. The lines separating the woman Grace and the vigilante Blacklight are blurred at best, as her path has Grace to a point of hiding who she is at every turn. She is renowned for her deeds more so than her voice (her old habit of offering occasional words of wisdom now almost dead). Above all else, Grace feels a disdain for those who threaten the order of the world and will act rashly against them without inhibition. Where once she may have hesitated, Blacklight is no longer the kind of 'hero' to think twice about her actions.
Backstory:
Grace grew up in an environment where superheroes often made news, their inspiring faces hitting the television screen. She found herself captivated by this new world of wonder and what the naive child believed to be magic. One night, at the age of eight, Grace looked outside of her window, to the dark sky and saw a star unlike any other. "Shooting star!" she excitedly concluded, making a wish that she could one day be like those superheroes on the television screen. Grace's excitement elevated as she noticed the star managed to crash right outside her garden and began to glow a peculiar white. She froze, checking for any noise, with luck her parent's had not heard the crash. They did not. Grace carefully made her way down the stairs and out into the garden. She smiled and bit her lip as she extended a hand out to the fallen star. The white glow expanded and consumed the vicinity of the garden, engulfing Grace in it's beauty. The whole procedure was silent, a few moments passed before the glow settled down into nothingness, leaving the young Grace alone in the dark once more. Until, a few seconds after, Grace noticed the same white glow dancing around her fingertips. She was left breathless. She had wished for something great, and something great had been granted.
In the years that passed, Grace had learnt the little complexities of her power as she learnt the little complexities of herself. In her studies, she took a particular interest in history and astronomy. She had learnt to focus her power of light, which in turn boosted her focus in school. However, her powers had never contributed to other people until one day when she was 18. Grace was going to an interview that would decide her entry into university, when she became witness to a street crime. A man who looked to be in his 50s pulled out a knife to a young teenager, grabbing his phone and whatever money the poor boy may have had. As the man escaped the scene, Grace felt an anger wash over her. She noticed that she had begun to float slightly. Her eyes widened and Grace was a loss for words. She pulled up the hood from her jacket, to hide her face and soared into the air, offering a birds-eye view of the criminal. When Grace detected the man, she swooped down and apprehended him, firing scolding hot beams of light at his feet, stopping him in his tracks . In typical cliché suphero fashion, Grace was met with adoration. When quizzed with a name, the hooded woman could only think of the title 'Starlass', a combination of her favourite object, and the name her father used to give her.
Grace took a gap year, to become accustomed to the role of hero. She did a lot in that year, so much that the city gifted her with a uniform made of the most expensive materials, a testament to all Starlass had done and all she will do. During this year, Starlass grew close to many of the other superheroes in the city, especially the legendary Paladin. She stood as a consistent defender of the good in this world, leading the charge against many villains to rise against Heartania. This attitude brought her to the frontline during the Fat Man incident, giving her front-row seats to the tragic victory.
Something within Grace changed that day. Watching the Paladin's sacrifice started a gear turning inside her head, an instinct to continue her operation in a more covert fashion. With the activation of the P.A.L.A.D.I.N program, she left the world of heroes to become a much less public crimefighter: a guerilla-style vigilante, her new persona of Blacklight becoming a name that would strike fear into the hearts of law-breakers throughout Heartania.
In the year since she became Blacklight, Grace has changed. No longer the cheerful girl she once was, her shadowy, anti-social lifestyle has led to a life of solitude. The only thing she lives for is the nights where she dons her mask and sets out into Heartania's underbelly to deliver her own brand of justice...

Good luck, citizens of Heartania!
