VILLAINY AND VIRTUE A Superhero Roleplay
Roleplay Thread
The city of Heartania has always been a bustling metropolis of technology, enlightenment and unity. It is home to many heroes and public protectors, stalwart guardians of all that is good. However, with generations of individuals doing good in this fair city, a horde of evil will always sprout from it. Even now in 2063, heroes dedicate their lives to fighting evil and villains sacrifice lives for their own gain.
This is a superhero/comic-book inspired RP that places you into the city of Heartania, a semi-futuristic environment where science and technology dominates. You have the freedom to craft your own character of any morality with his or her own backstory, traits and direction. You can either help to stop the onslaught of Marshal Maleficus, join his dastardly efforts, or exploit the chaos it causes.
Rules
A full list of rules and regulations can be found here. Below is a quick summary. 1) The forum rules all apply and should be followed to the letter. 2) You must have an accepted character application before you can begin the RP experience. 3) Do not plagiarise in character creation. 4) Stick to the lore and the theme of the world. 5) You cannot control or harm other PCs without the owner's permission. 6) Big world/story changes must first be discussed with the GMs before being deployed. 7) Nothing too overpowered should be added, at least, without good reason. 8) If a GM ever puts their foot down on an argument, that is the end of the discussion. (They shall only do so if they feel the debate is causing tensions.) 9) If you are going to be inactive for a week or for longer, you must notify us so we can make sure your character isn't left behind, or we end up having to wait too long. If you do not, your character will become an NPC until you return. 10) Please leave the responsibilities of a GM to the GMs.

- ACCHILLEUS -
I was right. Setting this up and trying to get rid of The Broker led to nothing but insurgency, and this time, but I'm not the one in power. I'm just the insurgent with power.
"Take aim." The command was simple, the voice smooth, as he heard the echo of the men and women clamour onto the guns in hand and aim at the gate from afar. Acchilleus let go. The earth itself launched both the EMP's into the air, soaring, like a bird, perhaps the raven that would pluck the eye out of a wrongdoer, a victim of their fierce punishment to sate themselves. The first struck the gate that faced the marchers, the other hit the building that faced them also.
His crooked smile came back to form as he saw that they had served him well. "Forward." He walked, and marched on to the gate, hearing the voices behind him begin to stir as they saw the gate come closer and closer into view. Acchilleus knew what would have to be done next. "Charge the gate, and bring it down!" He stopped and watched the shouts of those behind him carry themselves forward into the frozen air as Rick, commanded them to push and heave against the gate, already shaking the snow from the very timber that was loosely holding it together. It would deliver joy to see the gate snap open, and it already began to weaken, shuddering under their weight as they pushed on and on.
The onslaught had now begun, and here they stood, purveyors of this final battle.

Emma Fitzgerald December 2055, Scarlet City It had been two months since she'd met him; Tommy. He was kind to her and he was honest, unlike her family. Emma's parents had always been... difficult. Growing up in Scarlet City they, of course, never had much money which seemed to inspire a lifestyle of alcoholism and child abuse. For years she watched her older sister get the brunt of it all, constantly knocked around and harrased; hit, beaten and called all sorts of vulgar names until she decided to make it stop. There was a rope and a ceiling fan, figure out the rest. Her mum and dad reeled from the loss. Like any normal parents they mourned... for a few months, but they would never accept responsibility, passing it off as a mentally disturbed teen being too weak to make it in the real world. They made what they thought very clear, even if they were never sober longer than ten minutes. For that, Emma hated them. A year passed and then they turned to her; she was the new punching bag. But it was different with Emma, she had to be strong to support her younger brothers throughout it all, after all their parents didn't seem to care about them. Emma never turned to self harm and never contemplated suicide, she would never understand her sister's decision, but she did however turn to drugs. She was a trainwreck until Red Wonder saved her. He got her sobered up, sponsoring her rehabilitation and never leaving her beside when she needed him, and so naturally - over time - something developed. A bond, a deep trust. She had confided so many of her secrets in him. She knew he'd lost his father at a young age, that that was how he fell into the whole hero gig, but admired his levity and wit in the face of adversity. It was like nothing could upset him. Honestly, Emma had fallen in love with him.

- INDRAN -
Indran stared at the other two men, in a standoff at the moment. He didn't say anything, and there were no real noises inside the museum right now. It was as if someone hit the mute button on a remote. He was still unarmed. He wasn't sure what this staff would do- would it just disappear, or would it come back to his hands? He waited for it to do something, but it just sat there, like a normal staff. It could shoot lightning, and magically appear in his hands, but when he was disarmed he would have to pick it up. Good to know. He waited for someone to say something, or for Long to run off, or.. well, anything, really. Anxiety built up in him- Or was it excitement? Maybe both. Either way, it was building up as time went on in the standoff. Every minute felt longer then the last.

- JONATHAN KRAMER - He absorbed the sunlight, the sheer beauty of it. The coastal breeze was wonderful, something he needed to cherish more. Of all the placed the idiotic council decided to build the fortress, they sure as hell did pick the best spot. Isolated, beautiful view, beautiful breeze. "Sir, they're on the way here, and Reaver is among them!" The silence had been broken, it was needed, but Jonathan wanted more of the sensation. He gave out a crooked smile and turned around. "Here? On their way here?" "Yes." Jonathan chuckled, they wanted to be defeated now? Impatient one aren't you Achilleus? If he wanted to be shut-down quickly then he would give it to him. "Put the canons on standby". The click heard around confirmed it, the canons poked out and aimed towards the road that connected the Citadel to the city. Jonathan walked to the top of the inner gate, clear view of the otherside. The fork road, the steep hill at front, and the outer gate in clear view. He saw the journalists at the gate, something that has become normal over the past two months, and now they would get a story of a lifetime. Jonathan couldn't help but imagine the headlines. Insurgency crushed by the power of the Citadel.Achilleus humiliated, arrested on terror chargesHigh Chancellor hails victory for democracy.Shame in a way, he wanted Achilleus humiliated under his plan that he would've announced in about an hour or two time, but if he wanted to be scattered by the citadel then Jon wouldn't mind, would be less satisfying but whatever. The shadows forming at the top of the hill took some time to clearly see, but he could recognise the shape. Achilleus, former councillor, head of the Safe Zone, failed usurper. The body frame was right judging by his past encounter and his television speeches, but now was the opportunity to strike. Jonathan held his hand out and shouted "aim!" They weren't within range, but if they had the guts to come down the hill then his victory would be secured. And that's when it happened. Two tiny black dots took to the air, grenade launchers? Unlikely, his men were too well equipped to be feared by two grenades. Flash-bangs? Not an option, turrets aren't affected by flash bangs, or at least the Citadel's weren't. Same would go for smoke grenades. So what was he firing? It was too small to be shot down and out of the way from any system that would realistically hit them. And then the sound rang. It was a low pitched sound that came with a small after shock. One hit the outer gate, and before Jon could think of what it could be, the second one went off. Same effect, same shock-wave, it even blew through his coat. Jon blinked for a few moments before observing that the insurgents came running down towards them. He chuckled and simply shouted, "fire!" The canons ran silent, no noise, no flash, they stayed dormant. Jon was confused. "Fire!" he shouted again, before checking his phone to see why they weren't going off. There was no noise and no reaction from the phone, and a quick look behind him told all. The Citadel went black, the lights were out, electronic equipment went out. No communications, just people running inside and out of the building trying to process what was going on. Before Jon could process anything else, he instinctively took out a handgun he had been carrying. It had ammo, the trigger was fine, but firing towards the ocean below yielded no results. No bang, no bullet firing out, the identification system that was standard for all high end weaponry was gone. No guns, and as Jonathan found out seconds later, no defence systems. He jumped down from the gate and ran like a madman towards the outer gate. "SHUT THE GATE! SHUT THE GATE!" he screamed, which prompted the guards to frantically start shutting said gate. The press, upon seeing what was coming towards them, scrambled inside, and before the insurgents got to the front, the gate was closed and locked. Everyone was safe, at least for now. Without the systems in place it won't take long for them to break through, and knowing the people among Acchilleus, the Vipers and the Ravagers, they would sack the Citadel and kill everyone inside it. Of all the things that could've taken down the Citadel, of all the oversights the councillors back then didn't think of when approving and designing the fortress, they never took into account that an electro-magnetic pulse would've taken it down. Jonathan was isolated, there was no way to call for help, and on the other-side of the gate was Armageddon.

Monica stood at the edge of the barrier, her steely gaze focused on the street. She knew an army was coming, an army filled with people with powers far beyond hers. She tightened her grip on the gun. Beside her stood many police officers, wearing riot gear and with guns so big they might as well be cannons. What could she do now? She'd be seen as a failure by Heartania if her barrier was broken, but she knew it would happen, she knew that this barrier would fall and the battle would come to the Citadel.
In truth, she was scared. Her exterior masked that, but deep down inside she felt fear. She didn't know what would be coming, but she knew she had to fight.
When the gates shut Monica screamed, "ALL MEN! PREPARE TO FIRE!" She felt her voice shake slightly, but that was fine.

As the horde rushed forwards, Reaver stood back, holding her arm up so her team didn't launch themselves into the crush of bodies. "Keep back, guys. That right there is a killing field. Let the grunts take the worst of it, we'll storm the breach when it's nice and open." She declared, already planning out their assault. Hopefully this would be a nice, swift display of power from Acchileus that would result in mass surrenders. The EMPs were a delightful opening move, crushing all hope of fortified resistance... She was impressed. Standing back, she reached back and drew a sword, relishing the feel of revealing the steel to the open air. There would be a lot of blood this night.
Jason was standing with the police blockade, clad in his white chaser armour. He looked impressive, but inside he was shitting himself at the roar of battle. The Citadel's cannons had failed for some reason, and now evil was hammering at the doors so they could get in and murder the people inside. He could not let that happen. With a roar, he surged forwards into the gate way, and pushed back on the door with all his immense strength. He would hold back the tides for as long as he could.
The barbarians were at the gates, and the sacking was imminent. Venator stood at the highest point of the Citadel, having warped her way up the building, and looked down with a hidden sneer at the rush of savages. She didn't care about the Citadel or its people- they were likely doomed whatever happened. Escape was almost impossible however, even if she wanted it, and anyway, there were hundreds of opportunities to deliver justice this day. The Recurve materialised in her hand and she raised it, and with a small chuckle, she chose her first shot. Changeling the power of the weapon, the drew forth one of the most powerful arrows she could muster. It would not come again before the dawn... But it would make something of a mess. Drawing back the bow, she aimed carefully, and placed her shot directly in the middle of the horde at the gate. It flew in a perfect arc, landing in the middle of the swarm... And exploded, with the force of a high explosive missile.

- JONATHAN KRAMER - The world was ending. In front of him was the small barrier for the police forces, and in front of them was Jason holding the demons back. This was bad, it was the weakest he was in, and he needed to comprehend his thoughts. He had questions. How long would the gate hold? Ten to fifteen minutes? What equipment do we have? Barely any.How many civilians are on the other side of the gate? Maybe too many.He made a decision, and it was likely he'll regret it. An explosion came from the other side of the gate, he turned around, the one with the bow. He cut off his head with his hand and yelled "HOLD YOUR FIRE DAMNIT! HOLD YOUR FIRE!" He turned to Jason. "JASE, GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE AND GET EVERYONE INSIDE THE VAULT!" He then ran to Monica. "Look, I know you don't like me, I understand that, but don't engage unless they start firing." He looked back at the gate. Still holding strong, enough for him to be prepared. "We're going to have to prepare for close quarters." He started his walk back through the inner gates. He knew what he had to do, find a way to call help with no form of communication, or find a way to get the power back on. Either one needed to happen, but until then, the inner gate must hold. "EVERYONE ABLE TO FIGHT GATHER TO THE COURTYARD, EVERYONE ELSE INTO THE VAULT." He needed to be quick, he entered the doors of the Citadel, the franticness of the staff was at high speed, he needed to bring the power back on.

Kay strolled back a lot slower than they had rushed to the museum. They doubted the march had started but even if it had they were not the kind of person to act as an inhuman battering ram. Sneaking in through an entryway no one thought of was more their style.
They turned the corner to find the safe zone almost eerily quiet. Not empty, there were still some people around but the mob of earlier had moved out. They shrugged before twisting their face and body into something new before moving on. It would probably be wise to follow the screams even though they knew exactly where to go.
They hummed an old tune from a musical with a tinman who wanted a heart. They had felt some connection with him when they were younger. They now felt too cold and hurt to ever want a heart to add to the weight in their chest. Still it was a chipper tune.
--
L felt a little dizzy as she placed her feet on the ground having to hold the table to steady herself. She took a tentative step forward, feeling happier as the ground tilted a little less. It seemed her sensors were a bit less calibrated than she remembered.
"It's a bit of a walk but I haven't got any money left for a cab."
She began to shuffle to the door her footsteps wobbly the faster she went.
--
Sienna was still lost in a sea of people. She wasn't near the front charging the gates but she wasn't with her friends either. It was a sea of yelling, even the chill air could not hide the heated tension. The sweaty bodies huddled together.
She felt drawn into it all, each breath drawn as part of the crowd excited her. All she needed was a sharp edge and she would not care who she hurt.

- SKYLARK - BOOM!Aderyn watched the arrow arc to its target, and watched with a steely face as it impacted. She then turned her head to face Venator, nodding to mark that she was impressed. She said nothing in that moment. She knew this was where the Harvester would show his evil face; all she had to do was wade her eyes through the crowd and find him. Her wings flapped magnificently, and with it she expertly dived down, summoning a powerful gust of wind as she did so. Aiming herself to land amongst the attackers, she did so as the force of air pushed back those around her, creating a ring of bare ground. Preparing herself for martial combat, she called out, "Sonar! Keep an eye out, I'll get his attention!" - STARLASS - As things had finally began to settle down after a monumentally chaotic day, Grace's ears pricked as the noises of battle could be heard. She hadn't experienced the sheer intensity of sound since the riots had fallen on the city. Her heroic instincts almost had her soaring towards wherever the cacophony had sourced itself, but then remembered her place. She flew to a nearby rooftop, and perched herself upon it, keeping an eye out for anything around her. - KINETIC WARDEN - One minute the Tower was quiet... the next it was in a state of alarm. EMPs had been set off, sourced at the Citadel. Clyde looked to Ali, then to Juris. Panic had erupted, and unlike every other occasion; Argent Mind was not there to direct. Without a second thought, the Warden opened up his communication to the Tower, "We are in a state of emergency right now. It seems clear that Acchilleus and the Broker are fighting it out," he looked out to Argent's room. Despite himself, Clyde knew he would have to follow the hero's example, if not his instruction, "...we will not take a side. I repeat: the Tower will not side with either party." He walked further into his room, opening the stainless steel locker that contained his uniforms, whilst continuing, "There will likely be collateral damage in this fight, Operative Sanator Hippocratia will coordinate rescue missions and aid attempts for any civilians," he produced one of his older outfits; a thick leather chest-piece, with appropriate kneepads, along with boots, gloves, and a sleeveless flexible suit to go underneath. The whole uniform presented a grey and silver colour scheme, and looked far more battle-orientated than his other suits, "As for registered heroes, Acchilleus has brought the Ravagers along with him. You will apprehend these criminals, and any other as your prime directive, whilst try your best to neutralise the threat whilst staying neutral." He grabbed his quarterstaff, placed on his grey domino mask (outlined with silver), and looked to Ali in particular. "Warden out."

- HUNTER -
Luke glanced at Lilly and James, as the trio stood side by side in the courtyard, the chaos occurring around them as if the very world threatened to drop at that moment. Luke looked up to watch an arrow fly over to the other side of the gate, far away to the ends of the bridge as an explosion was heard. Shouts were already being dashed at one another as Luke felt himself grip the cylinder on his back and pushed the button, feeling the familiar transformation into a bow as he looked up to see the stages of war. He watched his sister prepare herself as the snow melted into water, thick but somewhat small bodies of water now on either hand. Luke glanced at the flare of ferocious flames to see the fires dancing in either of James' hand, a cocky smirk given to him as if he was supposed to be impressed."So, they'll probably bring that gate down soon enough. Any plans?" asked Lilly, as she looked at the two. Luke could see the cold making her shudder somewhat, as the snow continued to fall like a blizzard and cast itself into the icy air. He was saddened to see that she was somewhat scared; empathizing with her. He could only imagine how she dealt with the riots beforehand. But, Luke felt like she knew that this would be far worse than riots, contained chaos was a far worse spectacle of blood and loss. "That explosion hopefully did a lot on their shitty army," joked James. Luke was glad to see he was somewhat brave, steel-faced almost in this time, though the flicker of flames that danced upon his fingertips almost seemed to make him a different person. "Let's just focus on wiping them out, it's way too late for a plan now," replied Luke as he saw Lilly nod tentatively. The snow continued to tremor with every thud at the gates, echoing into the cold air and the freezing waters underneath.

- JONATHAN KRAMER - Jon ran through the corridors, the panic was everywhere. "Mr Kramer?" said a familiar voice behind him. A little mouse. "What are we going to do about the parents, Starlass' parents?" They were like waiting for word on them, considering he still has them on his premises. "Keep them safe, hopefully she'll get in contact with one of us soon, we just need to wait it out a little." He hoped he was right, otherwise everyone would be turned into a bacon buffet by the end of the night. He continued his run towards a possible solution. "High Chancellor!" said another familiar voice. A little mouse. "Yes?" "You got any specific orders?" "Get all abled men and women, regardless of abilities into the courtyard, and find whatever equipment suits them. Get them armour." "But we only have enough for the people, not you." "Then give me whatever Claudia was working on! Whatever the condition!" He started walking towards his destination, before turning back around and yelling "and find anything that didn't shorten out that could be useful!" He found his destination, the power source. He got out his lighter and went inside, hopefully he can find a way to quickly quell the chaos.

- ACCHILLEUS -
The attack was already vicious, Acchilleus paused to watch the faintest line sweep through the sky in its roaring arc, watching it come closer as furrowed brows could not trace the purpose of one single arrow. Did they hope to kill him? Were they warning him of more to come? Nothing more than ferocious flames of the explosion answered him as Acchilleus watched several of the Vipers die from the explosion, shrapnel striking the ones around them, as Acchilleus quickly created a low thin wall to protect him and those around him at the forefront of the gate assault. Only few pieces of the shrapnel reached out, striking the Vipers but more importantly, striking himself as they cut at his sleeve slightly, blood starting to drip. The first wound had been commuted, as Acchilleus watched the horrible husks of blood and bone left with ashy skin at the forefront of the explosion.
Admiration almost took him over, as Acchilleus knew that it was these same men and women that took most of the impact of the explosion, thankfully it didn’t seem like any of the other hired mercenaries had been hit, simply the Vipers. Whereas they had cut the snake, they did not cut the head and when they feel the venom coursing through them, they would finally know the dangers of what they had done. The gate continued to tremble as Rick commanded the others to get back to striking it down.
A gust of wind almost caused Acchilleus to stumble as he turned to see the issue now. Acchilleus watched a sapphire blur land amongst the army, those around the elegance stumbling back from the winds that were carried on the large wings, a domino mask hiding the visage of this wicked fiend. He could do nothing to help, but simply watch as some of the Vipers who had not been knocked back to their feet, began to rush to her. It was only then when something else distracted him. He turned around, and saw the gate finally open.
The venom pouring into the open wound as the Vipers immediately rushed forward, Acchilleus doing so too, allowing some of the earth to form low thick walls in order to provide cover. He watched as a few of these walls had already been crafted, but the strain was too much, pushing himself too far as pain only now settled in his arms, the same ones that dragged the earth from its roots. Behind him, those that hadn’t been too injured by the explosion followed, yet slowly as some continued to deal with the harlot that had descended amongst them. This was a war on more fronts than one and Acchilleus immediately created a wall for himself, his eyes gazing out of cover as he tried to think of the best way to deal with this. Most of the Vipers had already started shooting.

The Adamant Marauders were following orders, for the moment. They formed up near the rear of the Broker's little army, checking their gear and waiting for a signal to betray their supposed allies. Nariko, standing near the front, smiled under her helmet at the unsuspecting fools. They had no idea what was to come.
Jason, following the orders of Kramer, backed up from the door just as it began to cave inwards. Screams and threats put him on edge as weapons appeared in the breach. He started to retreat, dodging a couple of stray shots, before breaking into a full-on sprint to arrive back at the main fortress. There, he met Shade, who was watching the enemy in the distance with a frown. "Soon, we'll be rushing into hell." She muttered, her face grim. "Lets make it a good fight then!" Jason chuckled, cracking his knuckles to ease the tension.
"Bad goes to worse." Venator muttered with a shake of her head, watching the door fall in. She began to volley arrow after arrow into the largest masses of the foe, caring less for accurate shots and more for simple rate of fire. After five arrows fell into her foe, the sixth would explode. Far lesser than the first, but enough to destroy a man stun his companions.

- SKYLARK - As gunfire erupted around her, Aderyn dropped to her feet in attempts to remove herself from the crossfire. She noted some of the attackers falling to now stray bullets, but she knew most would quickly adapt to the situation. And they did. She howled in pain as a pullet entered her exposed lower-leg, a wake up call to get to work. Her breaths quickened. Her fists clenched. Aderyn jumped to her feet, made a short sprint and began a low flight. As she came into contact with the first foe, she took her opportunity and grabbed them by their shoulders. It was difficult to pull off, but with her sheer level of determination; she managed to carry the person up into the air with her, using her powers to knock the gun to the ground. She had to fly high to avoid any upward fire, but she knew where her destination was. - NEMESIS - Elizabeth had heard her fair share of gunfire back in Capital City, when she was an active associate of the mob. As such, she was largely unaffected by what her ears were picking up; until it came in much higher intensities. She shot a look of deep concern at Apollo, before walking over to her office window. The Citadel was out of view from the District Court, though the bridge to it was just visible. She never expected things to escalate to severely. Darting into action, Elizabeth opened up a secret compartment under her desk, revealing a key alongside a white leather domino mask, bordered with light blue. Using that key, she inserted it into a hidden hole, obscured by the same desk the key compartment had rested. It opened, producing a suit cover. As she unzipped it, to reveal a striking white (assented with light blue linings) coat with an arrowhead-type tail. Along with that came a tunic, with matching leg-wear. She peered up from it, staring at Apollo with determined eyes, and spoke with a much more commanding voice than she had adopted before, "You may have your own calling, but this is mine. I'm going out there, to help restore order to the city," as she placed the mask upon her face, Nemesis added, "Don't breathe a word of this to anyone."
