-The Racer's Countdown- The Red Racer The Racer scanned the long list of Tower security briefings on their computer. They supposed the next hero for review would be Nimbus, though they didn't know too much about him, they'd have to read his dossier along with the briefing. The moved to the second page of the report on Nimbus. Evander Harrington seemed the typical hero from the reports. He had healing powers, and he was probably among the happiest people in this damned city. The Racer glanced at the picture of their friends on their desk. The next memory, of Chris Russo, came to mind as the Racer continued reading the briefings on Nimbus. Chris was the person who brought the driest sense of humor. When together with his friend Keith, they'd been able to have the most cynical, and funniest conversations, and could go back and forth for lengths of time, without getting boring. They had been roommates in an apartment in downtown Heartania, it was at least fitting that they had at least been together when the city went to hell. They'd been on their way back to the subway after getting food and coffee at one of their old haunts in the Fog District. After about half an hour, the Racer marked an 'X' under Nimbus. Next hero.

EMMA & EDWARD FITZGERALD Street - Morning
Hours had passed since she'd woken and she could stall no longer. Supplies were low and - regardless of the state of the city - Emma had to do the weekly shop. Walking through the city, Emma found both disturbance and an odd comfort in the increased police presence in obvious response to the battle the night before. As she clutched to her son's hand perhaps a little too tightly, Emma glared around the city with paranoia and fear.
Acchilleus was dead, and with him his empire. The "extra secure" Safe Zone was no more, being slowly integrated back into the city. Emma supposed she wouldn't want to live under the rule of a man who would launch an armed strike against the government, though she was scared for the consequences for her and her son. For now the government would have civilians remain in their homes in the Safe Zone area.
Carrying her shopping home in one hand and with her Ed's hand in the other, Emma ambled down the cobbled side street, before suddenly a gunshot rang out. Instantly, Emma dropped to a squat, running Ed to a wall and pressing them both against it, taking cover while the sound cleared.
"Mommy," Edward cried, "What's that!?" In a rush, frightened and fumbling over her words, she squatted down to talk him, "Everything is going to be fine, hun." she smiled to him, "We just need to get home." Quickly, Emma began to move fast between the streets, away from the gunshot and back to their home, unaware of what she would run into.
As the two emerged from an alleyway they came to a small side street, and in the middle of the road shambled a battered and bloodied man, knocked kneed and slow, with dark hair, pale skin and a large samurai sword slung over his shoulder. Trying to make no sound as not to attract attention, she pulled her son once again into cover and gazed upon the man in horror. Was it him? Had her past finally caught up with her? She couldn't tell as the man dragged himself down the lane away from her; his back facing him.
"He's hurt!" Edward exclaimed under his breath, "He needs help! Mommy you can make him better!" Ed jumped up and began to move from cover, only for Emma to pull him back, "No, its dangerous. He's a stranger; he might be a nasty mester!" she fretted. "Strangers need help too!" he didn't care that the man was scary or that he had a weapon; he was hurt and he needed help.
Emma - unable to stop him - watched as Edward momentarily struggled from her grasp around his forward and began running towards the injured man. "No!" Emma hissed from behind closed teeth, chasing after him as all of her worst fears were about to come true - as he'd finally meet him, "Edward, get back here right now!"
"Mister?" Edward asked inquisitively, tugging on the injured man's sleeve, previously undetected, "Are you alright?"

- HUNTER -
Luke clutched at his shoulder, unable to ease the burning pain that writhed underneath his skin as he continued to step through the odd neighbourhood, he felt as if it had been planted here overnight, like he was in another world almost, glancing around at the cobbled houses, the empty streets, the lifeless lungs of the empty sky that paraded over the city. There was no wind, or rain, no sleet, or snow (besides what was left over from the wintry storm had come about in more ways than one yesterday). It was lifeless, empty, for a moment Luke wondered if his perception was starting to fade, if some kind of disassociation from reality was beginning to fill him, leaving him to drown in the empty space. But it wasn't any of that, his mind, unlike his body, was as sharp as ever. He blinked as he felt his cuts continue to peruse through the senses, making sure that his skin would feel just as much pain as his body. It was one thing for him to feel like this now, still trying to ignore the breeze that brushed past the rips and tears in some of his clothes, down to his scalp for his messy hair which he managed to just barely fix.
Yet what replicated that pain for his mind was instead anger, and a sense of grief at the turmoil that had clearly crippled the city, almost as bad as the riots from a few months ago, the riots that had seemingly started this domino effect of blood and fear from the very beginning. Luke sometimes stayed awake late at night, wondering how he even managed to get through the city and do it all for nothing. Kay was gone. Lilly was dead. The city was still weak, and he couldn't help but feel like he was partly to blame. Still clutching his shoulder, he continued to move through the desolate streets, colder at the thought. In some ways, he got his wish, though that wish came with a dear cost. He wished for Kay and Lilly to both not be dead, one of them kidnapped him, and the other died regardless. He wanted to help the city, which he did, only he was too weak to protect it for long, whilst others put down their life to stop Acchilleus. As Luke recounted this, still shaking from the cold as he passed through another street. He was walking somewhat more confidently, limping less, he felt the blood beneath the bandages begin to almost ebb away, as did his sadness.
He wasn't sad or pitying himself for what happened, though Lilly's death still seemed to break him in more ways than one, but he wasn't sad, he wasn't feeling the need to shelter himself away from the world. Luke looked over everything that happened from a different mind as if he was recounting mistakes that he hoped would never happen again. He almost didn't realize it at first, but somehow, through all the blood, sweat, and tears, Luke finally felt as if things, could possibly be, much later down the line, okay, perhaps even better. Though most of his mind was still clouded in grief, and despair, if- no, when he came back to the city, he was going to prove that woman wrong and show her that heroes are still out there, that they may have the upper hand for now, but that upper hand would soon collapse into ashes. It was at that moment, deep in thought, that a young boy suddenly caught his attention, tugging at his sleeve as he saw a young woman running in his direction. Luke stepped back, forcing a smile as weak as it was as he glanced down at the kid, and then towards the woman, making sure his attention wasn't diverted. Luke grimaced slightly as he stood up, making sure he could stop limping and support himself with both feet, as difficult as that seemingly was.
“Oh, I'm...okay,” lied Luke as he wondered where the boy had come from, starting to get a bearing on his surroundings as he resisted the temptation to raise an eyebrow. The last thing he wanted to do now was to get in the way of other people, especially after the heinous confrontation he had been drawled through, the scratches and cuts at his side were a reminder of that, though Luke had to admit, to the passing stranger he must have looked clearly hurt by now.

APOLLO | Jay Hearne Kathy's - Morning Jay almost froze as Haley's hand brushed over his arm. Shaking it off, he carefully closed the door behind him and listened to her speak intently. "This place is lovely and on my salary cheap is needed and kind is appreciated." He smiled; she got it. Most people would come here and call it a dump, most people were used to their fancy, overpriced coffee shop chains; their Cafe Neros and Heartbuckses, though Haley saw Kathy's just as Jay did, as someplace real... that also happened to be pretty cheap. "Should we sit over there?" Haley gestured over to a side booth. "Sure," Jay replied with a curt smile, shy, "I prefer sticking to the sides of rooms, so..." He then laughed awkwardly for a few seconds. They took their seats on the worn red leather seats, resting almost in the imprints of the backsides of previous patrons. Only the table between them, Jay spent perhaps a few seconds too long deliberating on how to act next before he fumbled for the menu at the end of the table, styling out his mistake with slow and cool movements as if he knew what he was doing. Unfolding the paper, he turned the menu down so that Haley could see over it. After his eyes gave a quick scan of the usual few dishes he was familiar with he turned the menu 180 to face her, "So what do you desire?" he laughed, putting on a comical, grandiose tone in his voice ever so slightly, acting as if this run down caff was some fancy restaurant.

Haley gave a lopsided grin as she leaned forward to get a better glimpse of the menu.
"See you don't have the gravitas to pull that off. You need to commit." She retorted happily as Jay took the mick out of her very flowery phrase from before. It used to be embarrassing to say those words when requested in her old life by creepy bastards with wandering hands but now it was a phrase that gave her power.
He was rather sweet with his teasing at least, playful not leering.
So instead with dead serious eyes she peered up at him coyly, her tone a mixture of penitent rising to sinner at the end. "Master I do desire a dish so sweet and light that I think you have brought me to heaven and yet as I reach that peak you throw me low with bitterness eased into my throat so that I make taste of true earthly desire..."
She snapped out of it as she leaned back. It might freak him out but he had started it off. Still continuing on in her normal voice.
"Or in other words whatever pastry you recommend and a black coffee. What are you going for?"

Monica stared at the empty Vault with a grimace, turning around to Claudia with a scowl on her face. "Where is it all Kramer, I know you've moved all of it and got the rest of your little minions out of here." Her tone was deadly serious, and she approached Kramer with her chest puffed out. Monica knew where they had gone, or could make a pretty educated guess over where. But, any further use of Monica's insider knowledge could implicate her in a way she didn't want to be, if they caught on to her sight, things would be very tricky.

Alex rested the unconscious Kevin onto a bed. She looked down on the weird looking boy, but Alex wasn't really going to judge whoever her neighbour was and why he was acting so weird. Alex left the room, she was now all alone in the house since her father was out at work.
As much as Alex didn't want to leave the house all alone with her neighbour in it, she did want to go out. Kevin seemed like a nice guy, so she could potentially trust him with her home, he also didn't seem like he'd be waking up anytime soon. Grabbing her jacket, phone, wallet and keys, Alex left the house locking it behind her. As she began walking, Alex thought about her plans for the day.

APOLLO | Jay Hearne Kathy's - Morning Jay chuckled at her response but found himself caught off guard with her sudden trance-like words. As she spoke her words washed over him as he struggled to find a appropriate way to react, continually getting more and more uncomfortable in himself, slowly going wide-eyed and only saved by her returning to a more regular tone. He shuddered slightly as she continued speaking normally, snapping back into familiarity with giving off a nervous stammer. "Well... um... haha... I'd probably go for the uh- pan o' chocolatt" he butchered the pronunciation as he leaned over the table to point it out on the menu, "Though I hear the almond swirls are good, I'm just not a fan of almonds..." Beat. "And I think I'll have a... ham and cheese panini... and a coffee. Haha... keep it simple."
EMMA & EDWARD FITZGERALD Street - Morning "I'm... okay." "Are you sure," Edward chirped, "You look really hurt. My mommy can help you." Just as he had said that Emma got close, slowing to a light jog as the man looked up to her. It... wasn't him. But the man still had a weapon; he was still dangerous. As the man stood far to close to her son with a deadly weapon in arms reach, Emma felt she had no choice as he hand squeezed around the cold metal object at the bottom of her handbag; something she hoped she'd never have to use. Drawing it quickly, Emma's two hands clasped around the grip of her revolver. She pulled back the hammer with an audible click and pointed it square at the man's chest as the nose of the gun shook profusely. It was clear to anyone watching that she had no idea how to use this thing. "Get. Away. From. My. Son." she hissed, her voice welling up.

"Good plan." Haley nodded, easing back a bit from making him uncomfortable. She felt a bit guilty even though it had been nice to flex out a bit of playing it up, it was too easy to give into that temptation.
"I think i'll go with the pain au chocolat. Almonds tend to remind me of murder mysteries and not in a good way." She replied tracing where the word was on the menu with her own finger, her fringe flopping forward a little before she pushed it back.
"Now while we wait. Why don't you tell me a little about yourself? I mean you already know i'm a production assistant with the local news who needs to be kinder to her sparring partners.. But all I know about you is your name."

APOLLO | Jay Hearne Kathy's - Morning Jay grinned and laughed lightly. "I suppose you're right." He really hadn't told her much about him at all. "My... uh- name is Jay- Jarvis Hearne and..." he began to space out as he reached for something to say. Who was he? He was a boxer, and now suddenly an otherworldly being of heavenly power though he couldn't exactly tell her that. He was Apollo - whoever that was - but outside of that... who was Jay? "... and I don't have much money... or friends. I don't have a job but... uh- I think I've finally found what I'm for."

Haley blinked heavily at the last words. The first were the normal filler that many a person dragged out when thinking of themselves. Sure this was a rather sad list but not an uncommon one. In fact not too long ago in the scheme of things that had been her own list. No the last bit hinted maybe at the desire she had seen.
"What you're for? Like a higher purpose.. Maybe a heroic venture."She queried realising that the last words were a bit far for someone who he had only just met. "I mean in this city everyone wants to be a hero, right? Though that's just me being silly I guess. I mean how would you get villains if everyone wanted to be good and.."
She brushed her own words a way, the chatter becoming a bit of a nervous spiral where she had to bite her tongue for real to stop herself from being a complete moron.

APOLLO | Jay Hearne Kathy's - Morning "Yeah," Jay replied, "Something like that..." He looked to Haley, now she was fumbling over her words same as he was. "In fact quite a lot like that;" he continued, "I want to help people." 'Oh! I forgot to mention I died last night!' those words swam around his head as he marveled at the absurdity of it. But he had told her the truth; he was going to help people, however he could. "What about you?" he asked, shifting the subject, "I doubt 'production assistant' is endgame. Where you headed?"

Haley's eyes widened a little as she thought about the question. Her tongue throbbing a little as she poked it along the inside of her teeth.
"I've never really thought about it." She managed sadly. "I used to have an idea a few years back but then I had a bad thing happen to me and it kind of knocked my whole life to pieces."
Not technically a lie. Being dead did tend to wreck a life or two. Being in some kind of hell certainly made that worse.
"I want to help people too. It's why I got into the job I have now. I get to make people happy and that makes me feel like i'm worth something."
Her face took on a melancholy yet gentle edge as she turned her gaze downwards to her hands. She took a breath then looked up at him again.
"I guess we should try and order that food now.."

- HUNTER -
Luke immediately stepped back, his eyes widening as he saw the woman shaking hold up the gun, the sound of the safety clinking away into the empty space. At first Luke was shocked, watching as the gun came in view and aiming right towards him, no matter how terrified the woman looked, no matter how much the gun shook, or the fact she had the improper stance, the fact her arm barely looked like it was ready to hold the gun properly. Luke simply backed away at the threat, barely able to hold up his hands as he simply held them below his shoulder area, wincing slightly as he did so. He cast his view completely away from the son, focusing more so on the gun and where the woman's fingers were, even if they didn't know how to use a gun, it only meant that there was a higher chance they would shoot, whether by accident or impulse. He took a shallow breath, trying to stay focused, knowing that there was nowhere to run, and even if there was, he wouldn't make it a few feet before a bullet lodged itself in his back. Instead, Luke had to rely on his words as he tried stepping back once again, being careful to not tread so hard on the icy ground and slip.
“Hey, okay...okay, I'm not going to do anything,” replied Luke softly, he tried to make sure that he wasn't raising his voice or making any sudden movements, everything seemed to feel heavier, the pain, the time which seemed to almost stop for a moment or two. Luke's biggest fear right now was a muzzle flash being the last thing he ever saw, no way out of the city, no hunting the villains that would continue to prey on the weak. A part of him found solid footing, no longer moving back but still keeping a considerable distance between the both of them, as he steeled the courage to speak, this wasn't the first time that he had been held at gunpoint, and as odd as it sounded, by now he was hoping it wouldn't be his last, for that alone had troubling implications. “Just...put the gun away, I'm not going to hurt you.”

CLAUDIA KRAMER Bingo. Claudia looked surprised at Monica's response, was very confrontational, inflammatory, and down right adamant. She wanted evidence, but everywhere she went presented roadblocks that she wanted to bring down. It was why she was hired, after all. "First you touch me, then you have a seizure in front of me and don't want medical attention, then when I fully co-operate with you, all you can do is accuse me!" Claudia stepped back before she got too heated. It hurt her head a little, and the last thing she wanted was a lasting migraine. "We kept civilians down here while war raged above, and once that was over they safely left. I hoped you of all people would understand that, keep the civvies as safe as possible, and if you don't believe me..." she pointed towards the cameras. "...we have cameras you're more than happy to access."
NATASHA MCCALLNatasha went to Johnny and lightly cradled his head before kissing his hair. "I understand, don't feel as if you have to if you don't want to." She lightly smiled and rubbed his head before regaining her posture. "I'm going to check with the doctors to see if I can take this thing off, don't be afraid to call me."
She looked at the young man one more time before heading back into the monstrosity she stood on.
BRENDAN FOLEY The alleyway still stank, and it was something Brendan wanted to get away from almost immediately. He kept out of sight as he compiled the document he would send Ragno. Evidence, payment option, and a thank you note. Nice and encrypted, just the way he worked. Class 3 Target (Ambroke): $50,000 Class 6 Target (x13): $65,000 $40,000 The agreed amount plus discount. No evidence left behind, and then it was sent to his client. "Have a nice day." He placed the phone back into his pocket, and headed back towards the Pit.

>> SONAR << Citadel Helipad Johnny pouted as Natasha pushed the lock of hair he'd been struggling with back in front of his eyes. Blowing it aside once again, he realised she was leaving. Sitting up, he called out over his shoulder to her. "Hey..." Not hesitating to see if she would wait for a response, he followed up on the shout with a softer tone. "Thank you. I... I appreciate the company." As his last good friend left the helipad, Johnny leaned forward, resting his chin on his tucked-up knees. His eyes stung as they followed clouds drifting slowly across the horizon.
