INIQUITY AND INTEGRITY A Superhero Alternate Universe
Roleplay Thread
The city of Heartania has always been a bustling metropolis of technology, enlightenment and unity. It is home to many heroes and public protectors, stalwart guardians of all that is good. However, with generations of individuals doing good in this fair city, a horde of evil will always sprout from it.
In the parallel universe of Earth-β the year is 2065 and it has been 18 months since the insane nuclear-powered villain; Fat Man sought to wipe Heartania off of the map with meltdown at the Heartania Power Plant.
Heroes intervened, lead by the paragon of virtue; Blake O'Crowley - The Paladin, but empowered by the active meltdown Fat Man was simply too powerful. Even with all of their powers combined the heroes could not stop Fat Man, they could not stop the meltdown but The Paladin had a secret weapon; a last resort. If they couldn't stop the blast, they could move it. And so The Paladin repurposed his Teleport Drive into a Teleport Bomb and blasted the Power Plant right down to its foundations into the furthest reaches of space, aborting the crisis and saving Heartania. But unfortunately the bomb needed constant maintenance and so Blake was forced to stay behind and go down with the rest of the plant, just as Fat Man was seemingly able to escape; his powers weakened by the heroes' Pyrrhic victory.
The city was saved with the doomed plant sent across the stars... but at the cost of The Paladin - Blake O'Crowley. Heroes and even certain villains alike grieved and licked their wounds but eventually a status quo would reemerge...
It was Esteban Vargas - The Seer - Blake's ex-teammate who came across The Paladin's contingency plans; a powerful A.I. network known as P.A.L.A.D.I.N. which consisted of a backup of Blake's consciousness which would serve as a mentor to the heroes, as well as four prototype Paladin-1 Peacekeeper Bots to be commanded in battle by The Seer. While this could potentially stir up controversy among the citizens of Heartania the heroes mostly excepted P.A.L.A.D.I.N. as an extension of their lost comrade.
And so, in present day the potential threat of Fat Man's return to bring more destruction to Heartania looms in the distance but by-and-large things are starting to improve... even if super-powered villains were still very much a problem.
Our story begins as the Blake O'Crowley of Earth-Alpha; The Knight finds himself lost in another realm, the parallel universe of Earth-Beta with no way to return home...

AGENT ROSE | Tommy Drake "Watch out." Tommy took a quick breath as he moved swiftly to support the tower of toppling books. Along with his enhanced vision he often found himself reacting to things much faster than average, noticing disturbances sooner. Straightening the pile out he looked to the woman that had called out to him. Tommy smiled, nervously chuckling as he watched her in distress. He leaned forward, "Close one," he laughed in a whisper, "And hey - this is a library - keep it down." His smile shrank as he sat back to his seat, still looking at her. Caught up in the moment even he couldn't have been sure but as those books fell Tommy swore he'd seen the woman's eyes flash a familiar red. "I didn't catch your name?"

"Oh sorry I didn't think of that."
Deb's breathing slowed a little as she calmed down. No mess and after her little outburst of noise and motion she was once more using that weird half whisper that library patrons everywhere adopt.
"I'm Deborah, though most if any call me Deb." The words were a tumble. How long had it been since she had been sociable with people outside her job? A little too long. Too many long hours alone.
"I apologise i'm an utter mess today. Its this explosion that has me on edge. I saw it this morning."
That was true at the very least. Though she was unsure why she brought it up.

- Lorraine Norwood - Tense fingers tapped the steering wheel of the old ice cream truck, the only other sound except the harking engine resonated through Lorraine Norwood’s vehicle. In front of appeared the bridge which would carry her safely across the water and onto the island of Heartania, one step closer to finding her long lost brother. It was odd; she’d never really thought her purpose would be finding a little kid she barely could remember. How old was he now… Just turned sixteen, maybe? Did they look alike? Did he know anything about their parents? What would she say when she saw him? ’ ‘Hello, I’m Lorraine Norwood. We’re siblings.’ …nope. No need to be so on point and formal about it.
‘Yo-‘ …no.
‘Hi, I’m Lorraine. I’m your sister.’ …
*sigh* I’ll just… improvise. Shit, I’m not prepared at all.’These and a number of other questions roamed through Lorraine’s head as the bridge lifted her up and a bit closer to the skies. She only paid necessary attention to the dull drive until at the peak of the bridge Heartania lighted up the view with all its lights lit in the evening, giving Lorraine a feeling of exhilaration as she imagined what it would be like to live in a luxurious penthouse on top of a skyscraper. On the way down from the bridge she felt a slight rumble in her stomach and decided it best to grab something to eat to calm her nerves and settle the hunger before her planned encounter with a stranger she’d never known.

AGENT ROSE | Tommy Drake Tommy smiled proudly, holding his hand out for a handshake, "Nice to meet you 'Deb', I'm uh-" Though his name was Thomas Drake for many years he had introduced himself as 'David Rose'; his alias as an agent of FATE. The principal behind this to keep anonymity, to avoid ties to an agent's past before joining FATE, though the more Tommy thought of it he didn't exactly have a past pre-FATE. As Red Wonder, the boy known as 'Thomas Drake' was a nobody. With the rest of FATE missing; all HQs desolate, he didn't have to pretend; he had already spent months in deep cover pretending to be some ruskie. He would find out what had happened to them and recover all he could but now he played by his own rules. "I'm Tommy. Tommy Rose."

"Nice to meet you Tommy." Deb grinned. It was big lopsided grin, as unrepentant as a child. She eyed him up a little of her trademark curiosity tunnelling into the mire of weariness her job had instilled in her.
She had not given herself enough time to have a childhood. Growing up quickly had its advantages and its disadvantages. She never had that safety blanket of being wrapped in the arms of so much older making her feel safe from the world, only her arms, her efforts protected her.
"So Tommy what should I know about you other than your name? Got a passion? A job? A thousand year curse to your name?"
She looked up into his eyes her own glowing a warmer orangey shade of red like a little sunset.
"I mean with a surname like rose there has to be some prickle amongst the goodness."

"So... Some weirdo turned up and gave you a box? And you took it to me?" Lydia was talking to her brother, but her attention was focused on the small cardboard box that now sat on the floor of her room. Carefully, she poked it with a cane. It remained defiantly quiet. "Y'know, Jase, it could have been a bomb. It still could be. You could have killed me, dickhead! I know you'd be fine but I wouldn't!" She glared at him. Much like the box, Jason didn't react. Frustrated, Lydia stormed out the room, taking cover around the corner. "Open it then!" Jason reached down, and in a simple movement tore the entire top of the cardboard package.

In the cardboard box sat a translucent plastic case of bullets in a 6x4 grid. On top of the case sat a note simply reading: "These should keep the metal men off of you for long enough." The bullets were golden in colour but with a glowing blue core inside each shell. AGENT ROSE | Tommy Drake "All of the above?" Tommy joked, "No, I'm uh- ex-military. Hope that doesn't scare you. I took a few years out to travel the world and I just got back in the ol' US of A." He smiled warmly, "Though the rest," he teased, "is classified." He sat back in comfort, "And you? 'Deb'. Who are you outside of the library and the gym?"

Lorraine drove for another couple of minutes until her eyes eventually spotted a small diner next to a library. Without hesitation she drove into the little parking lot in front of it and backed into one of the spaces, trying as best she could to ease the wheels in between the marked lines and making it with a mere inch’s precision.
Once the van had stopped she switched off the engine and jumped out of the car before locking its door. For just a second she glanced around at the relatively peaceful area she’d driven into and started walking towards the entrance to the dusty diner. ’Hmm… Is it safe to leave everything in the van? …eh, it’ll only take a minute. If there are any tables by the windows I can keep an eye out.’
With a smile she peeked over her shoulder at the ice cream car with nostalgia, remembering last summer when she and her father had decorated its white sides with light and dark blue paint, writing ’Flurries’ in bold italics’ over the variously sized snowflakes splattered all over the originally white van. It had taken a lot of time to get the exterior sorted, not to mention the engine that would needed another overhaul sooner or later, but the car usually ran smoothly when Lorraine needed it to. Little did Lorraine know that the van had caught interest among some sleazes performing the art of graphiti in an alley nearby.

Deb twitched a little. It was weird to have so personal a conversation. Back with her brother she was a child, online she was one in a sea of many and at work a stick to lean on. Even as a hero to be she kind of faded out into the crowd of other do gooders as a minor player in the background.
"I'm really kind of boring, I'm a support worker though I suppose I at least get to help people which isn't too bad at all. A small town girl moving to the big city should have been a movie star wannabe I know but that has never been me. I'd rather do something concrete."
She paused to eye him once more. A long slow look slightly tinged with surprise. He didn't look military, not like some of the veterans she had worked with. His posture was wrong. But then again she couldn't group everyone as the same.
"Ex military huh? Do you know any good fighting techniques? I've been trying to find something good to learn. I've been a bit lax in any training I did in the past."

AGENT ROSE | Tommy Drake "Do I know any techniques? A few," he smiled, "Working spec ops around the world you pick up a thing or two." He wasn't being completely honest with her. Tommy wasn't ex-military; he wasn't special forces, but FATE were a high ranking, government-sanctioned elite unit of soldiers and spies. The spec ops part was true, with FATE working many black ops for the government that even the politicians themselves didn't know about. They played a very deep game. It was odd socializing like this. He'd been playing the part of a cold, anger-driven soldier in Russia for too long, being someone he was not. This was an oddly pleasant experience. "So you fight?"

"A little. I had some training when I was younger, bit of a mish mash from Judo, Karate and some stuff I can't even remember the name of. Mainly to teach me self control. I had a few issues myself as a kid. Stuff flying round the room. It got pretty out of hand. Windows and bones broken."
Deb had a rye grin remembering the time she had screamed sending all the cutlery in the kitchen into the ceiling because she couldn't find her favourite blanket. The powers had been way more of a curse than a blessing.
"Its one of the reasons I wanted to help people. Make up for my past sins."

AGENT ROSE | Tommy Drake "Oh, so this is a redemption story? Not my kind of read but I respect it. I'm sorry to hear you had a hard time." 8 years ago now Tommy's entire family got caught in the killing spree of an escaped criminal; Pain. Tommy and David apprehended the man that massacred his family soon after and Tommy wanted nothing more than to see that monster on ice, but he persevered and got Pain locked up for life, cleaning up the streets of Scarlet City and installing the vigilant new warden of David Bates in the Scarlet City Prison. Some days Tommy's trigger finger still itched, wondering if things could have turned out better if he had avenged his family himself, whether he'd feel so empty about them still. Though in the present he had no regrets; they were gone either way and through his actions Tommy had forged a path he was proud to look back on.

Deb snorted with laughter.
"Nah. I was fine. Not too much redemption needed. Especially as I had a loving brother who sorted me out."
Her eyes sparkled like tiny rubies. She needed to call him soon. Check how he was doing, what projects he was up to.
"He works with the army. Though I doubt you ever met him, he's a scientist off breaking into new world changing territory, i'm proud and exasperated by him. Got any family yourself?"
