AGENT ROSE | Tommy Drake Tommy winced at their mention as everything quickly began to move into slow motion. His field of vision narrowed as his already superhuman senses seemed to become even more amplified. His breathing drew heavier and his pupils dilated before Tommy became overwhelmed with... nothing. To the outsider, to Deb, his breathing would seem normal but his smile was gone, replaced with a neutral expression, eye contact broken as he stared into the distance introspectively with hollow eyes. "Uh-" he snapped himself back into reality, "I had a... a brother," he muttered in neutral, now making partial eye contact once more, "and... two sisters."

Deb winced. His face was calm hardly changed but the word had floated in the air like the stink of a sewer.
"Wrong question to ask. I'm sorry."
She sat very still hands twitching on her lap, she wanted to reach out and clasp his hand give a little human warmth back but the invisible barrier of not really knowing this stranger rose in the way of that. She was quiet for a moment her mind blank.
"I can't imagine losing my brother. He's all i've got."
They were the only words she could think of. Tears floated to the surface of her eyes and she could feel her borrowed laptop shaking beside her. Calm down. The two words floated to the surface of her mind.
"I think you beat my redemption tale into a sob story. And I can't deal with those without paperwork."
It was a bad joke that she got out as she wiped her eyes. Guilt gnawed at her. She was just making a mess out of today.

AGENT ROSE | Tommy Drake "It's-" Tommy looked back up to her and cracked a half smile, "It's fine. I just don't talk about it a lot, s'all." Beat. "I haven't really spoken much at all for the last year or two, especially not in English." Deb seemed genuine, trustworthy even. Tommy decided he would be happy to bump into her again sometime.

"Well hey its my job to listen to this kind of stuff. If you ever feel like you need someone to talk to maybe you should give me a call."
Deb scribbled down their number on a piece of paper. She liked this guy, he was comfortable to talk to. Even if she had almost crushed him with a tower of books. He was intriguing too.
"This really looks like i'm hitting on you doesn't it." She laughed as she held it out, placing it next to him on the wooden top of the counter before shrugging. "Oh well."
Her stomach began to growl on her then. A mewling beast asking why she had not eaten since before the gym, before the books, because it was way more important than either of those activities.
"Damn i'm starving. Sorry unless you need food as well i'm going to have to leave you."

AGENT ROSE | Tommy Drake Tommy chuckled confidently to himself as Deb placed the scrap of paper with his phone number next to him. "Nice," he smiled, sliding the paper off of the surface and into his hand with two fingers. Tommy looked at the writing for a second before looking directly up at Deb preemptively as he stomach was about to growl. "Damn I'm starving. Sorry unless you need food as well I'm going to have to leave you." He put his hands up in feeble protest jokingly, "I'm kind of in the middle of something here," he gestured to his remaining pile of newspapers, "But - I have your number - maybe I'll call you some time? Rain check?"

"Of course." Deb replied. A little happy and sad at the parting. It was nice to find someone to talk to but alone was her norm and the invitation was more perfunctory than anything else.
"Nice to meet you Tommy."
She added after gathering up her awkward pile again. Taking the laptop back where it was needed then checking out the books didn't take much time at all. She sighed happily as she got outside spotting a diner across from the library she followed her growling stomachs advice and headed inside.

“Look at that piece of junk!” “Dude, it’s perfect! ’Flurries’. Can’t you see?” “..you’ve got to be kidding. Sam, are we going to redecorate it?” “We’ll give it a new name and everything. You keep an eye out while I start working on this soon-to-be masterpiece.” “Can I wreck it?” “No! You can break in, but check if there’s a car alarm installed first. Don't wreck my piece of art.”

“I’ll have… hmm,” Lorraine squinted at the menu lying at the counter in front of her, trying to decide which of the dishes would give her the most nutrition with the least amount of cash. A hamburger maybe? Or something sweet, like pancakes with miscellaneous fruit?
The door opened again and Lorraine briefly peeked over her shoulder, registering a tall slightly curvy woman in a black hoodie with the reddest hair she’d ever seen- and her irises in the matching shade of crimson. ’Wow.’
Surprised, she blinked briefly and leaned forwards on the counter again to the impatient dismay of the cashier. The woman held her plastered smile like a politician selling his soul, a thing Lorraine noticed and therefore hurried on with her decision. “A large hamburger and a bottle of water, please.”
“Alright, we’ll bring it to you in a minute. Feel free to have a seat in the meantime.” The cashier gestured to some cleared but not clean tables near the windows overlooking the parking lot. If she wanted to keep an eye on the van, she’d have to settle on one of them. “Thanks...”

Maria yawned, her day had droned past without anything interesting going on. As a relatively new inhabitant to the city, Maria didn't have a lot of friends, her only friends being the cats that often visited her house and visited where she was in general. Her day rushed as she went job hunting, and clothes shopping. Carrying a relatively big bag full of clothes, as well as her superhero costume. Maria had to go to a small shop in order to buy the right materials to patch up the tears and wears in her outfit from her latest fight.
Passing by a diner Maria noticed a bunch of youths hiding behind an ice cream van, spray painting it. "HEY! YOU KIDS! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!" She screamed at them loud enough for the kids to violently jump up, look at Maria as she stomped towards them. The kids scrambled as she approached. Damn kids. Since the van was parked in the Diner's car park, the owner was most likely inside and was not going to be happy with what had happened.
Maria pushed open the door to the diner, her white chiffon dress standing out against the colours of the diner. "Is the owner of an ice cream van in here?" She called out, turning the heads of a few patrons.

Deb took a deep breath of the air that was coated with the smells of hot coffee and chips. It was a deep filling smell that made her stomach growl a little louder.
"Can I help you Ma'am? What would you like to order?" A rather harried member of staff asked dragging out a grease stained order pad and pencil.
"I'll have the hot dog no sauce but with onions and fries with a large banana milkshake, thank you very much." She smiled handing over the exact change as quickly as possible. She slipped out a bit more change adding it to the tip jar on the counter that matched the servers name tag, which elicited a small smile, before she made to find a seat.
There were a smattering of people across the diner. Mainly working men and women in little groups just off their shift from somewhere. There was one figure just sitting down by themselves. An eye-catching blonde with piercing blue eyes that Deb only just caught as they looked outside the window. She looked like the kind of woman you'd see in a skiing advert, all lithe body and captivating edges. A contrast to Deb's own roundness. She was alone letting Deb feel a little braver as she approached receipt in hand.
She didn't get a chance to ask whether to join her as a woman came barrelling in yelling about an ice cream truck.

One of the youths had already broken into the van, and now hid inside it in suspense of what would happen next. His breathing was shallow as he tried to keep calm, peeking over the front of the dashboard to make sure the woman had headed inside the diner before he started to rummage through a bag of Lorraine’s personal belongings. He was prepared to leap out the broken side window at the first sign of anyone approaching.
--
Lorraine blinked; she had no sooner sat down when a woman came in asking about her ice cream van. The look of her made Lorraine wonder if she was one of those women who went on shopping sprees and got whatever she wanted, though the clothes she was wearing somewhat stated otherwise. Maybe it was a new trending fashion? Anyway, if she wanted ice cream she would get it.
“I am,” she rose up and looked past the redhead who at one point had seemed to head her direction.

"Ah," Maria walked over to her, pointing at the ice cream truck outside, "A group of young children were vandalising it with spray paint, I managed to get them to scram but it looks like they done a number to it." Maria's voice was apologetic. "Sorry I didn't manage to catch any of the little blighters, but you should check your van out."

The car was easy to break into, but vandalism was something Lorraine hadn’t expected. She’d tried parking near the shop in fear of a break-in, so how did a couple of kids spray-painting it slip by unnoticed? Her eyes widened in shock, then they narrowed again in anger as she held back a hiss. “They what?” She rushed past the woman and back out to the parking lot, leaving behind her wallet just as a waiter prepared to bring her the hamburger she ordered.
Once outside she could just about see the damage the paint had done to the white van; The ‘L’ in ‘Flurries’ was now covered by a long orange tail ending in a brown tuft twisting around the ‘F’, emerging from the behind of a lion with a black fluffy mane lying on its side, supporting its head on one of his elbows like a lollipop model from the 1950’s sunbathing. A pair of black sunglasses and a cheeky suggestive grin covered its face and would’ve made Lorraine snicker if it wasn’t painted on the most valuable belonging she had in Heartania.
Upon closing in on the car she thought she saw something move in the front near the driver’s seat. With a twitching eyebrow she walked calmly over to her van, prepared to hold back the hooligan by their neck if they as much as dared try run away.

AGENT ROSE | Tommy Drake Tommy sat still in the library, eyes closed; focusing. It was then that he heard something he wasn't expecting. "Hey! You kids! What do you think you're doing?!" the shout was audible even by normal people, but what followed only he could make out with his abilities. - Footsteps. Multiple. They seemed to scatter pretty quickly.
- Tommy could make out from the rattling noises that they were carrying aerosol; spray paint. Vandals.
- He then heard one sound that troubled him followed by another. The first; a door opening and then closing.
- Someone had entered the vehicle.
- Second; the cocking of a pistol. They were armed.
Tommy heard through the walls as the owner left the diner to check on her van. Quickly, he stood up in a panic and rushed out to find her standing by the van's door. He could hear the kid inside the van shuffling about with the gun, his heart racing as he feared being caught. "Stop." Tommy called out to the van owner, "If this is your van... I saw one of the kids climb in while the rest ran off. Be careful, I'm pretty sure he had a gun."

Lorraine rested her hand on the car door handle and turned her head to face the voice calling out to her. A silhouette was all she could make out, but right now that didn't matter as the new threat she'd been made aware of. "A gun?" At first confused, she now remembered the handgun she'd left behind in the vehicle. 'Shit.'
She took a step away from the van and thought carefully of her next move. The safest option would be to contain the person, but that would mean exposing her powers to a complete stranger- not to mention a number of people watching from the diner. And if the culprit really had a gun, her gun, she couldn't risk them run around hurting anybody. Counting her options, the wisest thing would be to withdraw and wait for them to run away... But Lorraine knocked softly on the car's window and tried to figure out why on earth she took the insane option.
"If there are anyone in there and you are armed, now is your chance to walk away. All I ask is that you leave behind what you've taken and step out of the vehicle. I won't press charges." A white lie, of course; but it would be easier to find someone with a vague description than no description at all. "So, what do you say?"
