PVT. Aleksander Kozyukin Somewhere in Russia, near the Ukrainian border April 11, 2044
Aleks had been only been in the military for a few weeks now. He already missed home. They had shipped him out right after training, needing fresh troops near Ukraine in the case that the new 'Ukrainian Rebellion' tried to enter Russia. They also sent a few squads to help support the Pro-Russians that were trying to push rebels back towards central Ukraine. The rebels had struck swiftly, pushing East towards the Russian border quickly. Aleks sat in a tent. The base had been set up quickly, mostly being made up of tents at the moment. They were building a small fort, but it would take awhile. They only had a small amount of things set up. Lights, a siren in case of attacks, a fence and a gate. As Aleks stared out of the flap in his tent, he wondered how long he would be here. The person he shared his tent with, he thought he remembered him saying his name was Oles, was sitting and reading a book. Suddenly, the sirens started up, as gunfire could already be heard in the distance. He heard his commander yell "Vkhodyashchiye povstantsy! Dlya vashikh oboronitel'nykh pozitsiy, seychas!" Aleks quickly got up. He was already wearing his gear, since everyone was told to be prepared of an attack. He grabbed his AK-12 from the ground, pulling the bolt back. He shouted quickly to his comrade, who didn't have his gear on. "Oles, potoropites'!" He slung his AK onto his back, grabbing his helmet and quickly throwing it on and fastening it. He rushed outside, getting into his defensive position along the fence. It was a bunch of sandbags set up on a wooden platform, level with the top of the fence. People yelled in Russian and Ukrainian and then both sides opened fire. Aleks peeked up from his cover, AK now off of his back and in his hands. He saw rebels, wearing ragtag gear and with stolen weapons. They didn't notice Aleks pop up, and he aimed down the iron sights, firing a small 4 round burst at a rebel, who went down, screaming out in pain. The rebel held his leg in pain. Aleks had hit him in the knee with a round, and the others were in his thigh. He fired another burst at the man to quiet him, hitting him square in the chest- Probably in the heart, since he went silent afterwards. He heard someone shout next to him. They had been hit in their gut and fallen off the platform. He was dragged backwards, a trail of blood following him. He continued firing at rebels, and heard shouts of pain from both sides, almost every minute. He saw both Russians and Rebels fall. After what seemed like an eternity, the attack was over. The rebels had retreated, taking heavy casualties. Aleks had 2 magazines left on his vest. "Eto konets..." He muttered to himself. His commander yelled once more "Rassmotrite oblast', uvidet', chto survivors- ili zaklyuchennykh, vy mozhete vernut'!", and with that left the soldiers to survey the area. Aleks stood up from his cover, AK in his hands. He stared at the aftermath- Bodies, blood, bulletholes and bullet casings, spread out through not only the makeshift base, but the forest in front of it. Rain poured down on the battlefield. This was one of many conflicts that Aleks would see.

{Chernobyl - Part 1}PVT. Aleksander Kozyukin Northern Ukraine, Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant-Pripyat July 22, 2044
The Russian military had pushed into Northern Ukraine, after repelling multiple attacks from the rebels. They had pushed slightly South, but then mostly West. The first place they decided to set up a base, was a few miles away from Chernobyl- The destroyed nuclear plant that irradiated the area and would continue to do so for a long time. Unluckily for Aleks, his captain was told to clear out the rebels hiding in less radioactive parts of Chernobyl, and the nearby radioactive town of Pripyat. His captain had selected him and Oles (who, at this point was his best friend), as well as a few others. Their names were Danilla, Artyom, Iosif and Feliks. Of course, the Captain, Pavel Aksyonov, would refer to them by last name- Including Aleks.
As they got closer to Chernobyl, they were instructed to put their gas masks on. They were also told they should put on gloves, though it wasn't necessary. He pulled his gas mask over his face. They had Geiger counters on their chest rigs, which occasionally ticked. This area wasn't as radioactive. They continued moving forward, wary of ambushes. They didn't encounter any, luckily. The area became more urban, but also more.. Abandoned. Pripyat had been a ghost town since 1986, after Chernobyl Reactor 4 had a meltdown. Civilians were told they could return 2 weeks later, but they never did. This meant that their belongings were all still there. It was creepy. He didn't know why rebels would be hiding here. Maybe they thought no one would come searching a ghost town. Usually the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone was guarded, but since the war had started, the guards abandoned their posts.
Then they saw it. The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. It was half covered with concrete, which they had done in 2016, but didn't finish due to construction workers getting radiation sickness. It was an eerie sight. It was also one of the most radioactive places on planet Earth. They stopped for a moment, staring at it. The others moved, but Aleks didn't. The captain spoke. "Kozyukin, dostatochno osmotr dostoprimechatel'nostey . My zdes', chtoby ochistit' povstantsev, a ne smotret' na dovol'no elektrostantsii." (Kozyukin, enough sightseeing. We're here to clear out rebels, not look at the pretty power plant.) Aleks quickly apologized. "Prostite, ser." (Sorry, sir) He looked for a few more seconds, and then followed the rest of his squad.

{Chernobyl - Part 2} PVT. Aleksander Kozyukin Northern Ukraine, Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant-Pripyat July 22, 2044 2:11 PM
Their squad moved through Chernobyl. Their Geiger counters were ticking every few seconds. The wildlife at Chernobyl had flourished, being untouched by man for little over half a century. It was a long walk to Pripyat. There was no point in clearing out Chernobyl, since there was no strategic value. Mostly because of how irradiated it was. Of course, so was Pripyat, but less so. There was another squad coming in from the East, from their base camp, which meant that Aleks' squad had to take the long way, from the South. Roughly 30 minutes later, they were almost there. Rain started pouring down, thunder in the distance.
They were close to Pripyat now. Suddenly, a gunshot was heard in the distance, and a bullet whizzed into one of the squad member's eye, cracking through the gas mask and coming out the back of his head. He fell, landing to the ground with a thud. "Snayper, spuskaytes'!" Yelled one of the men. "Iosif umer, on chertovski mertv!" Yelled another. Aleks and the rest of the squad moved into the forest, which was on both sides of the road. His dead comrade, lie in the middle of the street, blood pooling around his wound. As they ran into the forest, another bullet whizzed into someone else's gut, who yelled out in pain. "Eto chertovski bol'no! Svyatoye der'mo, eto chertovski ozhogi!" As one of Aleks' other comrades went to pull him back out, Aleks aimed his AK12 at where the sniper fire was coming from, spraying a few bursts at them. It was useless, but at least it might make the sniper keep his head down.
As the man was dragged into the forest, he gasped for air, pulling his gas mask off. He coughed, blood pouring from his mouth as he did. Aleks ran into the forest, and turned to look at him. It was Feliks, who had been shot. Aleks spoke quietly. "On vystrelil v legkikh. On ne sobirayetsya delat' eto.." His captain then spoke. "Yemu uslugu, i poselil yego iz yego stradaniya. Eto luchshe, chem yego zakhlebyvayas' sobstvennoy krov'yu." Aleks listened, and pulled his pistol from it's holster. "Prosti.." He said, with shaking hands. He aimed it at his squad mate, and pulled the trigger. "Davay dvigat'sya." His Captain said. There were only four left, including Aleks. They moved forward, through the forests, eventually coming to a fence. "Kozyukin, razrezal zabor." Aleks listened, pulling out his bolt cutters, and cutting the fence. The remainder of his squad crawled under it, AKs ready. They moved into the abandoned city of Pripyat.
