Nolan's head was buzzing, moving at a mile a minute thinking about everything he had just undergone. He had arrived home, dead tired after his ordeals, completely baffled at the sudden turn his life had taken. Who could've seen this coming? One day he was a biologist in one of the biggest polluting cities in the world, trying in vain to make a difference, and now today he was the Son of the Forest, somebody given the power to make change in the world, somebody who can protect the forests with force if need be.
As he undressed and laid his head on the pillow, he couldn't help but smile. This was the dream. To fight for the environment however he could. Even though he was exhausted from what he had undergone proving his worth to Cervos, his body felt stronger than it ever had. He had yet to truly test the limits of this new strength of his, but that was something for tomorrow. Today he would sleep.

He awoke the next day, bright and early for work. He yawned and stretched as he turned off his alarm clock. Soon he was showered and clean and out the door. He decided to bike to work today, and found himself arriving at the University in record time with his newly powered legs. He walked in the door, giving a smile to the lab receptionist, Kim. "Hey there, Nolan you're in a good mood today!" she said with a nod and a grin. He continued on into the lab, where he was met by his co-workers, Alan, Sahir, Lisa and Renee. They greeted him with the same enthusiasm that Kim had, surprised to see their normally reserved friend in such high spirits.
"What's got you in such a good mood today?" Renee asked him as he put on his labcoat. Renee was a very talented botanist, not to mention a genuinely sweet person, and was always quick to offer a compliment or two.
"I don't know... I'm just feeling good vibes today." Nolan said with a soft smile.
"Well stop it, it's weird." Sahir said with a playful grin, punching Nolan on the arm. Sahir, a climate scientist, had become Nolan's best friend on the team, and enjoyed giving him a hard time.
"Well now that I know it bothers you so much, I guess I better keep doing it forever." Nolan said before taking a seat between Alan, another biologist, and Lisa, veterinary grad student. "Anyways guys I think I found some good news out in the forest yesterday." He said with a hopeful smile towards the rest of them. "I discovered a colony of honey bees just a few miles out of town. They aren't nearly as close to dying out in this region as we previously thought." He of course neglected to tell them that he had discovered this quality while on his way back to town after being granted abilities by a deity who resided in that very forest. But that information was on a need to know basis for now.
The team went to work, brainstorming ways to help protect this newly discovered hive. It was several hours before they concluded their days work and went their separate ways. Nolan was to go study it further, while the rest of the team went home to their respectful lives. He was about to take off on his bike when suddenly his vision blacked out and was replace with some sort of image in his head. The image was fuzzy at first, but in a couple seconds clearly began to take shape. It was the edge of the forest, and nearby there were bulldozers and saws. Somebody was attempting to chop down more forest. As the image cleared from his mind he was quick to hop on his bike and start peddling. This was it. This was his first outing. His first hunt.

And now he found himself in the forest, crouched behind a bush looking over at all of the different equipment as men in vests revved up their bulldozers. He was in full uniform, having gone home to grab the knife that Cervos had gotten him. Butterflies danced in his stomach as his nervousness grew. He knew the only way to stop this land clearing was to scare off the men involved for good, and that meant roughing them up a little bit. "Well... now or never." He said under his breath. He stood up and walked straight out of the forest, into the view of the poor souls who were unfortunate enough to be given this job. A bulldozer that was just beginning to roll forward was again stopped as Nolan strolled out in front of it.
"This forest is under my protection as of now." He shouted, over the roar of the machines. "You are going to leave, and you are going to do it now." He waited for the response, though he already knew there was no possible way that these men would just listen to some random guy in a weird suit.
"Get out of the way!" Shouted one man. "Run 'im over!" Shouted another. The bulldozers all revved up again and began to roll forward in unison, determined to finish their work on time and be done.
"Suit yourself." Nolan said in a low voice, though nobody could hear him over the din of the machinery. He took a running start at the nearest bulldozer, jumping and throwing his hands ahead of him. His hands planted on the top of the bulldozer blade, which he used as a base for a handspring which vaulted him on top of the dozer's cabin. He stopped for a second, impressed with his new prowess, before swinging his feet down into the cabin, kicking the man in the head, knocking him out of the machine. Nolan slipped inside, turning the vehicle off, before quickly jumping out and moving on to the next vehicle. He quickly leapt into the side of the next bulldozer, landing a series of punches on this unfortunate man's face, knocking him out cold. And again the vehicle was turned off and he was on to the next man.
In all four bulldozers were emptied of their operators, until Nolan arrived at the fift and final machine. The driver, after having witnessed the brutal assault on his coworkers, had shut off his own machine and was attempting to run away. But that wasn't good enough for Nolan, unfortunately. He gave chase, using his superior speed to run the man down, hitting him with a powerful tackle that took him to the ground. Nolan looked down at him, grabbing the man by the hair on the back of his head. He pulled out his knife and held it under the man's throat. "You tell whoever you're working for that this project is over. This forest is under my protection. If they try to build here again I will turn them back just as I have you. Do you understand?"
The man was clearly very shaken by this whole experience, but he nodded agreement. Nolan released him, before quickly standing and running back into the woods. He got far enough away from the machinery before finally sitting down at the base of a tall tree. His heart was racing, not from exertion but from the pure adrenaline that flooded his system. He had never done anything like that before, not even close, and he couldn't help but admit that he was enjoying this feeling immensely.
He stood up and began to walk away. He knew this was just the beginning, but he was now more excited than ever. He returned to the city, and awaited the next calling of Cervos.
